Secrets Revealed
Unit 1

getting started

Welcome to Unit 1 of the Secrets Revealed Class. This class has been brewing for some time now and I am so excited to take another journey with you and the beads. Every unit will have an assignment, but please take the class at your own pace. It is designed to first work through making components that we will than transform into wearable art.

Unit 1 Part One
The search

I wanted to start by showing you all how I search the internet to find supplies, this is a question I get a lot. We will also explore finding some of the supplies needed for the class. Please check out the video below.

Part two we will explore the needles I use, thread, foundation, back-stitch, gluing of components, trimming. Below you will find photos and written content on how I do the back-stitch, followed by a video.

Assignment for Unit 1 Part Two

Make 8-10 small components using your stash, these should be no larger than a quarter. Explore with the back-stitch, gluing, trimming.

The drawing to the left is a basic back-stitch starting with four beads. Going down through the foundation and then go back up through the middle beads, in this case the second and third bead, and out the last two. Bead counts will change if more or less beads are used.

Always start with an even number of beads. In the photo we started with six, bringing your needle up through your foundation and next to your cab, adding six beads, than down through the foundation at the end of the row.

Pull beads snug to the cab, and push your needle up between the third and fourth beads and through the last three beads .

Add another six beads, and continue the same process around your cab,

Once you get to where you started you may need to adjust your bead count. Push your needle through the whole row of beads bringing them nice a snug next to the cab.

Push the needle out the back of the foundation and tie a knot on the back, trim your foundation on the outside of the row of beads.
