Part one

Memorial taspestry

In unit five we will be playing with making some tapestries using fabric, photos, ribbons, lace or whatever you want really. These tapestries can be hung on your wall or if made small enough around your neck.

I have often transferred photos onto fabric using my inkjet copier. So we will be doing just that I find that linen works well, but you can also buy fabric sheets online made especially for this purpose.

As I was playing with the design for class I came across a photo of Maya my dog whom passed away not long ago, she was 14. There isn't a day goes by I don't think of her she was a special dog to me. So I thought why not do a memorial tapestry where we honor our loved ones, we can place some of their ashes in the back along with herbs or wherever calls you.

I added Ermine tails to Maya's piece and as you watch the video below you will get the whole story.

Find a photo you want to use. It doesn't have to be a memorial piece it can be any photo you want to use. Size it and print it onto your fabric. Make sure to seal it with a fixatif.

Gather the supplies you think you might want to use. If adding bead embroidery pieces gather the components you think will compliment the piece.

Use beads and components that will compliment the fabrics. Play with small shells, stones, or fur that you already have on hand.

part two

Vintage purse tapestry

I have several old vintage purses I have collected over the years many of them falling apart. I want to honor them rather than watch them fall apart bead by bead.

In part two of this unit we will be exploring how we can save them and make yet another tapestry to hang on your wall one filled with stories and love.

I look at the work that went into these amazing pieces of art the tiny beads used and the colors. I wonder about the ladies that wore them back in the day the adventures they could tell.

If you don't have any old beaded purses you could still make a tapestry using some old fabric or or perhaps something treasured that has been passed down to you over many generations. Be creative here and just enjoy the process of creation.

Please watch the next video to find out where to start.

Find an old vintage purse that wants to be transformed. Or use another type of material you can make into a special tapestry.

This project is a great place to use some large components that you already have in your stash.

Use the pattern of the purse or fabric your using to determine the outline of your bead embroidered center piece.

Find ribbon or lace that you can use along the borders and frayed edges of the beaded purse.
