part one

channeling fetishes

A fetish is an animal carving of stone, bone, or shell designed to remind us of the special gifts and quality of a certain animal.

The Pueblo people of New Mexico especially the Zuni are true masters of this art form.

Each animal has a gift to teach, by respecting an animals wisdom or medicine we can honor, and embrace that quality in ourselves.

In this project we will be adding fetish medicine to a channel cuff bracelet. You can also add fur, feathers or hair to enhance your design.

Watch the video below to get yourself started on this magical journey.

Below is a PDF file of the Zuni fetish carvings and there medicine.

Gather your fetishes and other supplies you may want to incorporate into your design. What medicine are you hoping to create ?

Measure the inside dimension of your channel cuff and mark a line on your foundation with a gel pin or marker. Try to keep your components in between those markings for best results.

Add some medicine to the inside of your cuff as well. Pick a gemstone of your choice add a few rows of beads around it, trim and glue in place using Tacky Glue.

part two

mosaic channel cuff bracelet

In part two we will be exploring making a channel cuff bracelet using Apoxie Sculpt and assorted beads.

This is a project I made many moons ago but thought it would be fun for you learn the process. You can use whatever beads you have available or follow the PDF which has a supply list.

Watch the video below to get started.

After mixing the Apoxie Sculpt press it into the channel cuff bracelet. You can cover the whole cuff if you wish, but you may want to do half at time so the sculpt stays pliable.

Once the clay is even and balanced start to add your beads. In the photo I used a tile bead as the center and worked my way around.

You can use any beads you have on hand. I like to use tila beads, Miyuki drops, super duos, small cylinder beads, size 9,11,15 size beads.

Once you have all you beads in place press them in to make sure they are happy. You can than add micro beads to cover up empty spaces and add some texture. I find many micro beads tale away from the mosaic.
